Nate Silver: When you were a young man, you chose to get a PhD in economics. But now you are a ecological economist. How did that happen? He says he was studying economics just because it fit what his father said to do. And sort of trying to find this kind of conciliant where I didn't know at the time,. More conciliant brand of economics led me quite by accident.

He advised presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on economics and energy issues.
