In 2012, I met Roseanne Hagerty, another Shoka Fellow. She's just the most amazing social entrepreneur and she's working on homelessness. Around that time she was thinking about applying her approach to running supportive housing for formerly homeless people to a neighbourhood in Brooklyn of about 60,000 people. Brownsville has suffered from the highest crime rates, the highest infant mortality rates, school dropout rates,. incarceration rates in the city. It's been really, really troubled and so she decided to take on this area.
