Black Elk's Vision of a Savior

Black Elk saw a man who didn't seem to belong to any of the ethnic groups that he was familiar with. He wasn't white, and he wasn't Indian. The man said that everything, all earthly beings and growing things belonged to him. It's thus natural to understand this figure as the wannakea, or savior, that the ghost dance movement said was coming.
