The Failure of Supervenience

The idea is that there are truths about consciousness which cannot be deduced from even the complete physical truth. Even if you have no limitations on your reasoning ability, Mary can't figure out what it's like to see read based on what she learns from those podcasts or signed black and white science books. So that establishes the first step which is the epistemic gap or the disability gap. Step two is to move from that to the failure of supervenience or the modal gap. And then the idea is that physicalism is incompatible with that modal gap because it's committed to there being no gap there. They're being a supervenous.
