The Singularities by John Banville

John Banville's new novel, The Singularities, is set 20 years after the events of 1989. Freddie Montgomery has assumed a completely new identity and heads back to his crime scene. Instead of Adam Godley being confined upstairs in this novel, his wife Ursula is kind of relegated to the upper stories of the house. And instead of one Adam Godley biographer, another arrived, Professor J.B., who may be slightly familiar to our readers.
