Introduction

Microsoft cut a deal with America Online to make Internet Explorer the default web browser for AOL's millions of users. This was a major blow to Netscape that would eventually lead to Navigators Decline against Internet Explorer, at least in terms of share of the browser market. If Microsoft's partnership with AOL signaled Netscape's decline, at the very same time it was an indication of America Online's triumph as the 800 pound gorilla of the online services industry.
