How Do Digital History and Family History Help Students Come to Terms With Affection?

The Indiana university where you teach is largely a white university with white students. How have the approaches of using an essays and digital history help them come to terms with appropriation? I think when students come into my class, we're in Indiana, which has a relatively conservative educational system. And one of the things that they really have to grapple with is why it is we value written records more than oral records or more than objects that are from communities in the past.
