Polyunsaturated Fats and Heart Disease

It's been very clear from the 1950s onward that if you replace saturated fat in the diet with polyunsaturated fat, you will lower blood levels of cholesterol. But it remains and continues to remain very controversial how much that's due to the cholesterol lowering effects of polyunsaturated fatty acids or just because certain saturated fats increase cholesterol production in the liver. I think playing with your saturated and monounsaturated fat in your diet can be a tool in your kit. Despite the very clear evidence that eating more polyunsaturatedfat reduces cholesterol levels, the experiments designed to show that it lowers heart disease risk were miserable failures.
