i've struggled my relationship with my mother, especially in the last decade or so. My wife and her parents have this sort of idyllic parent child relationship. I was just thinking, it's like, no one should feel obligated to do anything. No one should needlessly subject themselves to a thing that every year makes them unhappy,. Like drawing boundaries is not a selfish thing when you have kids. Drawing boundaries and being appropriate in having those tough conversations is a very selfless thing. Your kids are the ones that deal with the consequences of you putting yourself in unhealthy situations.
On today’s episode of the podcast, Ryan talks to his friend and writing partner Nils Parker about how to approach the actual process of setting boundaries with your family, how the way your parents interact with your kids is a window into how they treated you as a kid, and more.
