Identity and Assignment

In matthew three 17, it says this, and a voice from heaven said, this is my son, whom i love, and with him i am well pleased. And there's a second time that jesus has his identity affirmed. But our assignment is not the same as Christ's because christ assignment was to go to the cross. He endured scorning shame at the right hand of god before he sat down on the cross. What kept Jesus in that extreme place? In Hebrews it says, for the joy set him ablaze; we can't even imagine what would have happened if he had been killed by those who hated him more than they did.
