Engaging the Local Community in Archaeological Tourism
When you actively seek out and engage the local community, it helps you ask different and better questions that would not necessarily occur to you of the material that you're finding. In addition to the practical benefit that they often know things about the sights that you want to excavate that can be helped and useful to you. So i just give you an example we had at the time. We had funding from the government of katar. Katar pledged meno a hundred million dollars, or something like that, to support archaeology an heritage in sudan. And so we've gone from this kind of early realization to really increasingly engaging both the local community and our professional colleagues in sudan in planning
