The Importance of Autonomy in Video Games

Open world games are going to give you a sense of autonomy sort of at every tick or however many of them they can cram in. A study by some researchers looked at people who were playing like Super Mario 64 and found that those who reported experiencing greater feelings of autonomy also said that they not only like the game better but wanted to play more of it. The concept is really more important and impactful for explaining all the things that I've talked to up to this point  of choices and loadouts and builds and all other great stuff.
