Is the Sperm Count Declining in the Developing World?

Orger et al report that they found declining sperm count in 83% of South American studies. Scandinavian countries have less sperm decline than central European, and Japan and Korea have less sperm declines than China. Chinese data showed some extraordinarily fast declines over the space of just 5 or 6 years. It's unclear if this represents a decline or if they just started out lower. Middle Easterners had some of the lowest sperm counts in the sample with Egyptians having the lowest count measured. This Qatar study, Lincoln Post, compares Middle Easterners to non-Middle East immigrants, mostly African and Indian. The Middle Easternershad significantly lower sperm concentration, 37 versus 30.
