The total number of bodies that biomedical tissue services mutilated in this way without family consent was estimated to be between a few hundred to more than a thousand. Flesh and bones were stored unrefrigerated in plastic coolers, sometimes those coolers were even stored in the alleyway behind the funeral home for days. The recommended time limit for harvesting human tissue was 15 hours. In addition to cancer, many of those butchered cadavers died from complications related to HIV, hepatitis, and more. Those dirty tissues were shipped around the world and surgically implanted into over 10,000 people.
