The US Congress Is the Oldest It's Ever Been
The crux of the issue is that you can't truly have privacy if there's a way for a centralized actor to get access to the data. The overwhelming majority of people that use Eye message back it up to iCloud, so as long as one participant in that group chat or private message is backingup to iCloud, they already essentially have that back door. We've known the US government has used that in the past to go after people. And governments obviously want their incentives are set up to treat us as subjects and try and have as much data as possible.
