The Mishnah Is a Book of Judgments

The Mishnah is not presented as a commentary on scripture, which is rarely mentioned explicitly. Instead, we are told what various rabbis decided about a wide range of legal questions. Legal issues concerning women, marriage and purity laws loom large in the book. The text recognizes the possibility of allowing women to study Torah. Later Talmudic texts even named women scholars who spent years studying Torah.
