The Tree of Perception

Peregrine, the AI on Lawrence's computer, is partially sentient. The book ends with Peregrine undoing a spell that would make humanity like colony collapse. And so now they have to go and kind of figure it out. But you do get little snippets of scenes, even when bad things are happening to people - there's still these little moments of humanity crashing through.
