Surgical Tool Kit for Soldiers
By the imperial period, the army travelled with doctors. They were soldier doctors, if you like, specialists. These doctors could treat the soldiers on the battlefield itself and in gomania. In roman camps they had buildings that are dedicated to looking after the health of the soldiers. There's no general anaesthetic equipment that we might recognize as a modern operating theatre. Nevertheless, we might recognize the surgical tool kit that army doctors, but also non army doctors, civilian doctors, would carry.
