He accepts from husse the idea that human beings are fundamentally open to reality. Reality manifest itself to them in a variety of ways and in ways which are unified in various ways. And he wants to understand how it's possible for that to be the case. So now we're talking about a historically, culturally, socially specific horizon within which that apparently isolated relation between subjects and objects comprehended has to be located if it's going to be properly understood.
