The Universe Has Lost, Right?

The idea that there are laws, and that we can reveal them through experiment is pretty basic to our notion of understanding. Even well before modern science, indigenous cultures, just learning about their environment as they experience it, are telling stories. The patterns and trends that we notice in the universe give us a lot of clues as to the fundamental nature of the universe.
