Is There a Deliberate Power Cut?
In 2009, India had a power cut that was timed to coincide with the lower parliament elections. The BBC's Richard Quest thought about what might have been going on at the time and why people would be staying in for it. He came up with an idea: Maybe air conditioning so they could vote while hot? Or food like the democracy sausage - you can't cook there anymore. In Australia, voting is compulsory but he thinks some kind of penalties are imposed if you don't turn out.
