Tufftony Bastoni challenged Mike to another drinking duel, and soon Iron Mike was reeling drunk. When Mike collapsed, Tufftony raised his arms like a victorious heavyweight. Merino ordered Murphy out from behind the bar and told him to pick Malloy up. The next day, Kreisberg's Greengrocer estimated that he drank almost two quarts of smoke while Tufftoni only drank regular whiskey. They then attached the rubber tubing to the gas fixture but it was too short.
