A Brief History of the Roman Empire
Titus Flaminius was elected consul and given command of Greek operations in 198 BC. He fully embraced the notion that Philip had to be brought low, or Macedon would forever pose a threat to Rome. Beyond these immediate strategic interests, Flaminius himself was a great lover of Greek culture. In this conception, Rome was not another power looking for new territory, but a shield against Macedonian tyranny.
