In 1950, wealthy widow Catherine McCormick struck up a friendship with Margaret Sanger and asked for her advice about donating money towards a birth control project. With Sanger's help, they visited labs and investigated various experiments to see where they should put the money. Over the next 15 or so years, McCormick donated around $2 million. And the first oral contraceptive was approved by the FDA in 1960. Six years later, Margaret Sanger was dead.
