Karl: I think focus is really keen. If you don't take the time to learn and improve, you have absolutely no reason to expect the next project to go better than the current project. One way i suggest people do this is, on every project you work on, pick out two areas you want to get better at. They could be specific technical practices or softer skills, or anything else that you think would add value to your project work and your career.
