People of today have no access to sure and solid faith but they must face the book with a new attitude. I want to suggest that strange new world of the Bible mediates to us precisely a summoning community, a compelling tradition and an available future. So what are we left with? We and the people with whom we minister arrive at an isolated sense of self in which we are technical positivistic agents who live in a world that we must make and guard.
