The Importance of Inspiratory Time in Kids

It's all about when you imagine the alveoli, it's all about never letting them collapse. And so if you're holding pressure a little bit longer, you're not giving them as much time to sort of regress and collapse. You don't ever want to let your patient lose that FRC because that can really have a huge effect on them. The oxygen consumption of the diaphragm is pretty high as an organ or as a structure in the body. In addition, infants are often recumbent. Adults are upright typically and the chest wall has sort of this bucket handle movement. This was a term used by West in his respiratory physiology books.
