What Does All This Mean?

In greek history, we have the sophists. Their expertise is in showing that any particular position is partial and insufficient on its own. They then use that apparent insufficiency to conclude essentially that there is no truth at all. As protagoras says, man is the measure of all things. That is to say, there is no coherence to reality itself. There is no truth beyond the insufficiency of the particulars.
