The Decline of the Kingdom of God
The book is theologically dead set against narratives of both progress and decline. I see that theology of history as a bad reading of the way in which the kingdom of God intersects with history. So instead of decline, reading from the book now, I see this time between the times as one of unraveling. A time of unraveling can feel like the end of the world. It can be a time for grief, penitence, and discernment, but it's not a time for despair.
