Gene Expression and Variant Calling in Genomic Sequencing
Even in just genomics, a subset of biomedicine, there's so many interesting problems. One is variant calling - figuring out what are your variants with reference to the human genome. Google released this paper called Deep Variant that showed how you could assemble it almost like a jigsaw puzzle and then run image classification algorithms. It's just incredible. You have these great networks for variant calling and it beat all other methods.
