How to Determine Your Baseline Level for Running

If you're new to running, you don't really have a baseline yet. So I would err on the side of caution and maybe add 5% or 10% every other week for a new runner. You can get up to 10 or 15 miles a week pretty quickly because that's sort of a minimum. And then from there, it's almost like you kind of just have to build your mileage based on how you're feeling. A new runner really benefits from either having a coach or having a mentor.
