The Jihadist Violence in Niger

There are two US military bases in Niger, totaling about 1,000 or 1,100 troops. President Bazum was looking to downgrade the influence of his own presidential guard and even possibly remove the commander of that, a man named General Teani. The initial reports suggested that this looked more like a mutiny-turned coup at the time. There's a tremendous amount of kind of rumor swirling around; I'll try to be conservative in saying what we do and what we don't know.
