The Relationship Between Oral Language and Written Language

You're not born with that capability to be able to make sense of and produce printed speech. The correlation between your oral vocabulary and written vocabulary is significant, but they're not the same thing. They're perceived and processed in the brain differently enough that we need to be aware of there being acquired in different sorts of ways. When you learn to read, whether you're learning in a language you know, or learning in alanguage you don't know, you need to be provided additional support to support the semantic connection.
