The need for the self arises in interpersonal relations, not in terms of the requirements of the single mind. In a dream you don't have all the control that you have in ordinary life to make decisions and take responsibility. But there isn't the basi idea, if i know who i am, that's still there in the dream. The unconscious mind constructs a little scenario, and youl make sense out of stimuli. And dreams are aversion o that.
