The Universal Constructor
Energy states such as a and b, that are usable for work like transfers, are distinguishable. They can store information. That's what distinguishes them from energy states enabling heat like transfers - which need not be the same thing. This unifying link between information theory and thermo dynamics is extremely useful in practice. It could provide fundamental universal principles constraining laws of motion we don't know about.
