The Hot Creek Gold Mining Project was all Emily could think about. The proposal includes an open pit mine that extracts gold through a process known as cyanide heap leaching. A spill would cause an environmental and public health disaster. Even without a spill, the presence of the mine alone would have a huge impact on the landscape.
