The Importance of Longing to a Place
The setting of St. Louis Beach is a fictional town, but it was based on an area on the south coast of New South Wales where I spent time as a kid with friends and family. The distance felt really generative. And there's something to me about being up too close that you can't really see the whole picture. So I write much better about a place once I've left it.
