The Pharisee Vision of Resurrection
As a Pharisee, Paul believes this was going to happen at the end of time. But what if it happened already with Jesus and instead of being an end time product, it was an end time process? Why would it have begun with Jesus? Because Jesus has spent his life in non-violent resistance to Rome and the crucifixion. That's why the crucifixion is so important for Paul. And that's why actually every image you see of Jesus resurrecting either has the halo, the cross and the halo or he's carrying a cross. So You're never allowed to separate crucifixion from resurrection in the art whether it's in the west or the east.
