The Importance of Communication Cadence

When we hear people using different languages, we often believe or perceive that they have different speech rates or cadence. In several research papers comparing English, French, Japanese, Finnish, German, and Spanish, there was no significant difference in speech rate between the languages. As my friend, voice coach Judith Weimann told me, every language has a different music. These are the sound patterns, the music of our first language. This is what compromises our accent.
