What surprised me is how much actual Discrimination still happens when it comes to banking and finance and lending. I was naive. I thought that stuff just didn't happen anymore So the overt stuff where people would say things like well, you know pregnant women don't go back to work so I can't give you a mortgage loan even though you make enough money to qualify for it on your own Was really interesting too is we all assume that That that discrimination is something that's overt that happens because people see people and discriminate against them People we bring our inherent bias when we do things like do the coding for the algorithms that make the quick decisions on credit It's possible for algorithms to produce different results That are
