The History of Interferons

Interferons are produced by your body in defense of any sort of invader, primarily viruses. It wasn't until the 70s that we did more research and said these seem like they might prevent viral infection possibly. The treatment was discovered before the disease itself, it was a treatment for all sorts of viruses. We also didn't learn about Hep C first, obviously, because then it would probably be hepatitis A.
