The Difference Between SIBO and Nitrous in a Pediatric Circuit
I like to start with nitrous if I have a cooperative patient because the volatilac aesthetics smell bad. People typically don't like that, especially if they're coming back for a repeat visit. But it's not in infants and young children, the effectiveness of both of them together does not equal a faster induction. So what you're measuring by the machine is a diluted sample. N-Tidal CO2 is a little bit trickier to measure when you have an amount of dead space that may be equal to their own anatomical dead space. And so it dilutes out the N-T tidal CO2 that you're measuring.
