Is Machiavelli a Philosopher?
The great themes of political philosophy are in machi belly, but often hidden or zed. He's not a philosopher in the deeper sense that plato, aristotle, the mediaevals and anybody who talks about metaphysics does. In discourse to book two, chapter five, machiavelli takes up the question of the the life, the eternity of the world. If you read it carefully, you realize that he takes a side. And the side he takes is that the world is eternal. There are other times when these great themes of philosophy pop up, and they're hidden. It can definitely look, i think, on the outside, like it's a waste of time
