China has moved from being a completely marginal player in the world economy to having an economy which is technologically at the same level as that of the us. This creates a very interesting challenge for europeans, and including the brits. In the united states, there are very few things that the republicans and democrats agree on, but one of the things is that china is the enemy. And there's no real dispute over this. It's only a question of who is the key, the most hawkish.
