The Conquering of Death
Becker saw himself as an enlightenment person, a person who wants to enhance human freedom. He was constantly vexed by this idea that you can show people this whole transference thing and all that kind of stuff. And so the thing that really excited him when he came to formulate his death anxiety thesis is that he started to understand why simple insight is not enough. We keep trying to conquer death, projecting it onto our enemies and therefore we want to, and so the cycle just continues.
