A Child, a Child, a Child
The third wife said she would have a son before you return. She rested her hand on her abdomen and smiled. The husband's eyes grew and he embraced her. In his absence, the first and second wives wasted no time closing in on the third with shadowed looks. One seemed angry, the other shocked. Both were jealous, despite neither believing there would actually be a child. It was all any of them had hoped for for all this time. And yet they were all left wanting.
