I always suspect that one of the reasons people learn to like cruise ships is that moving does give you a license to do nothing in a weird way doesn't it? Because you feel you're making some form of progress just by sitting there and so sitting reading a book or just staring into space in a train is easier to do than the same thing when at home. I think trains have probably learned the psychology that if you rumble along at five miles an hour the passengers are reasonably happy whereas if you grind to a halt in the middle of a field they go frantic. And as soon as you're sort of going again you're like oh thank god we're moving and that sense of moving"
