Women and the Persian Empire in Ancient Greece
Women had no rights in Greek society and certainly not an Athenian society. In Sparta women were expected to have a shotgun and be able to defend the property, it wasn't really like they had equal rights or anything like that. But at the same time in Iran, you know women had tremendous property rights I mean there was paid maternity leave,. You had women serving as admirals in the Persian navy. And then if you want to go beyond the Persians and look at the other Iranians that the Persians were at war with, because you know the Iranian world was much larger even than the Persian Empire.
