The History of the Super Market
I'm always struck, really, in my local super market by how many le strike up a conversation with the cashier. I think that cashiers and other shop workers were kind of transformed, almost overnight, into so called front line workers who were performing a useful service. In credit does play an important part, i think, in your history of shopping for the poor and the well off. There's no one history of credit, because, as you've already implied, it runs across the classes. And in many kinds of retail, credit is absolutely the normal way of doing business.
