Parker's Pensées

CHAPTER

The History of Philosophy

I never like loved the history of philosophy when I was in grad school. It just didn't seem like the kind of thing that could motivate me to keep reading a lot of philosophy on my own. And I've come to believe it, especially for self taught beginners. History is actually probably the best way to get them to read more philosophy. You have to almost read him. High degree defines his terms often. There's all these different ways you could consume this work. Would some of them go over your head? Absolutely. They're basically dialogues and they're basically hand-me-down books. If you really want to understand them listen to an audiobook with different voice actors.
